Pauline Thorpe Hoover, 97, of Palmyra, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at her home.
She was born on May 8, 1928, in Christopher, KY, a daughter of the late Everette and Lucinda (Combs) Tharp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Herbert Paul Hoover; three infant children; three brothers, Everette, Jr., Jerry, and Joseph Thorpe; and two sisters, Charlene Combs and Freda Cornett.
Mrs. Hoover performed secretarial work for the United Mine Workers of America, the National Institute of Health, and the JAG School in Charlottesville. Prior to moving to Lake Monticello, she lived in Scottsville for many years and was an avid Bridge player with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include three children: Diane Greenwood of Palmyra, Brenda Gail Hoover and her partner, Don Arnold, of Palmyra, and Allen Hoover and his wife, Canh, of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren: Brandon Matthew Greenwood (Elizabeth), Dustin Paul Greenwood (Stephanie), Melina (JP) Hoover, and Zinnia Hope Hoover; two great-grandsons, Oakley Matthew and Mitchell Greenwood; three great-granddaughters, Raelynn, Laila and Maya Greenwood; two sisters, Emma Jean Tyreman and Sheila Ann Welsh; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home by Pastor David Vogt. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the funeral home.
