John H. Stancil, Jr., passed away on April 5, 2024, at home with his wife, Denise, by his side.
John was a loving husband, father, son and brother, that adored his family. Happy, kind,
selfless, John will be remembered for his love of family, life, hiking trips, love of travel, UNC
Basketball and meeting people.
Family brought John to Virginia from North Carolina, for him to begin working at American First
Bank in Arlington, VA. From the banking business, John started Rappahannock Fencing, for
many years and then moved to salesman at Purvis Ford in Fredericksburg, VA. John never met
a stranger. He loved meeting people and hearing their stories of life and travels.
John was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is survived by his wife, Denise L. Stancil,
mother, Barbara A. McDuffie, of Wilmington, North Carolina, sister, Lou Anne Boatwright (Roy
Boatwright), of Wilmington, North Carolina, brother, Christopher Stancil (Anne Stancil), of
Arlington, Virginia, sister, Amy McDuffie-Blackett (Mike Blackett), of Springfield, Virginia, Step-
Son, Christopher P. Brown, of Charlottesville, Virginia, daughters, Kathryn Herman (Nathan
Herman) of Pringel, South Dakota, Emily Stancil, Stafford, Virginia, Caroline Stancil, Stafford,
Virginia, sons, John N. Stancil (Rosie Stancil), Fredericksburg, Virginia, Adam J. Stancil
(Madison Stancil), Stafford, Virginia, nieces Kellie Boatwright, Wilmington, North Carolina, Isobel
Blackett, Springfield, Virginia, nephews, Scott Stancil, Arlington, Virginia, Tyler Stancil, Arlington,
Virginia and Ian Blackett, Springfield, Virginia and eight grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Marie Katherine Brown Adams, Alexandria,
Virginia.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, April 13, 2024 at Charlottesville First Church of the
Nazarene, 3056 Louisa Road, Keswick, VA 22947.
