James Robert McFadden “Woody,” 79, of Schuyler, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Charlottesville.
He was born on September 27, 1946, in Gladstone, a son of the late John James and Florence Woody McFadden.
After serving a brief stint in the U.S. Army, he worked at the Daily Progress as a Pressman until retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball. He loved hunting and taking care of his many dogs. James was always joking around, never met a stranger and was available to help anyone who called on him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond “Pete” McFadden and Charles Russell McFadden.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Brenda Phillips McFadden; two daughters, Tammy McFadden, and Jennifer Powell (Bryant); two grandsons, Lance and Preston Allen; one granddaughter, Kinley Powell; one great-granddaughter, Charlie Allen; sisters, Barbara Bryant, Martha Meador, and Daphine Davis; brothers, Howard “Billy” McFadden (Hazel), and Edward McFadden (Eleanor), two sisters-in-law, Ann McFadden and Pauline McFadden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home by Pastor Glenn Phillips. Burial will be in the Tillman Family Cemetery in Schuyler at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the funeral home.
